Soil Erosion & Sedimentation Control
|
SUMMARY
This law (MCL 324.9101-9123) was enacted pursuant to the Legislative policy to provide for the conservation of the natural resources of the state, including soil, water, farmland, and to provide for the control and prevention of soil erosion in order to, among other things, conserve natural resources, control floods, prevent impairment of dams and reservoirs, assist in maintaining the navigability of rivers and harbors, preserve wildlife, protect the tax base, and protect public lands. The law establishes soil conservation districts throughout the state, and local units of government administer soil erosion control programs with the oversight of the Land and Water Management of DEQ. Permit programs, administered by the soil conservation officers, regulate land use activity that involves certain specified types of earth changes in order to control soil erosion consequences.
