An adult adoption is an adoption of a person eighteen or older (generally by a step-parent). 

The petitioners (adopting parents) file a petition with this Court and an investigation is conducted.  Once the investigation is completed and the adoption is recommended a hearing will be scheduled to take the consent of the adoptee and finalize the adoption.  The rights of the biological parent(s) are not terminated and their consent to the adoption is not required.  The biological parent(s) are required to be noticed of the adoption hearing.
