Sgt. Mike Williams has been a Deputy Sheriff with the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office since 1996,and became a K-9 Handler in 1999 and is currently teamed with Rex.  Rex is a German Shepherd imported from the Czech Republic.  Rex's duties include narcotics detection, tracking, building searches and criminal apprehension.  Rex's favorite game is chasing a tennis ball.

Sgt. Williams previously teamed with K-9 Xill, (pronounced "Zill''),  the first K-9 to serve the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office.  Xill retired in April 2007 after 8 years of faithful service, and resided with the Williams family until his last run on August 21, 2009.  Xill will be fondly remembered by the Sheriff's Office.
