Undersheriff William Burden

On January 1, 2001, William (Bill) Burden became the Undersheriff with the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office. Burden is a retired Captain from the Kent County Sheriff's Department. He has had a very distinguished career with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department having served for 32 years.
William Burden brings an enormous amount of experience with him as he takes over the number two position with Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department. He has spent the last 27 years with Kent County working as a Detective. He was the commanding officer of the Investigative Service Division, which includes the Detective Bureau, Family Services, Kent Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, Scientific Support Unit and Property Management.
Burden holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University, and is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, as well as numerous in-service schools. Burden served with the United States Army in Vietnam in the late 60’s as a Military Police Officer with the 716th Military Police Brigade, Saigon, Vietnam.
