Volunteer EMS
MCES has many part-time employees working both as rescue attendants and ambulance attendants. While these personnel are paid for their time, their status is still considered "volunteer" since they take time out of their busy lives to staff the department's rescue units. Each person who works for MCES on a rescue unit must minimally be licensed by the State of Michigan as a Medical First Responder. Part-time personnel working on an ambulance must hold at least a Basic Emergency Medical Technician license, although most are licensed as EMT Specialists or Paramedics.
