The civil infraction department handles tickets less than a misdemeanor charge. This department enters the tickets into the computer and gives you 10 days to answer the citation. If there is no response after the 10 days, a default judgment is entered which automatically finds you responsible and charges an additional $5.00. If the citation is still not paid, a 14 day notice will generate giving you an additional 2 weeks to pay the citation. If the ticket is still not paid, a license suspension is generated and adds an additional $45.00 plus 20% late fee. This department also schedules informal hearings and formal hearings. This department takes payment and also is allowed to give limited extensions for payments.

Q: What if I can not pay within 10 days? A: Sign your copy of the ticket in the appropriate box and mail the ticket in, this will give a 30 day extension.
Q: How do I deny this ticket? A: Sign the ticket on the back at the bottom (where it states deny responsibility) and mail within 10 days. We will schedule an informal hearing with the magistrate and police officer. We will send a notice approximately 10 to 14 days before you need to be here.
Q: Can I admit with an explanation by letter? A: Yes, sign your copy of the ticket on the back where it says "admit with an explanation" and send in a hand written explanation for the magistrate to read. We will send you his decision by mail.
