In 2004 the Governor of Michigan signed P.A. 357 this act caused the tax bill to be split into two collection periods (summer and winter) starting in 2005. This new summer collection is being phased in over a three-year period. One third of the total county operating millage will be collceted the first year, two-thirds the second year and the total county operating millage in the third year 2007. The legislature enacted this legislation to provide revenue to the counties earlier in the year to replace the revenue loss of Revenue Sharing from the State of Michigan.
