The magnitude of Michigan’s timber industry is reflected by the fact that half the state’s land is forested. Lumber, furniture, pulp and paper products contribute $4 billion to the state’s economy annually. In 1993, over 26.8 billion cubic feet of growing stock were harvested in Michigan. Of this, more than one million board feet were harvested for saw timber.
